Circa 1920, American astronomers Annie Cannon and Margaret Mayall Discovered the Engraved Hourglass Nebula in the southern constellation Musca. Cannon went on to classify more stars in a lifetime than anyone (approx. 300,000), and was the first woman to receive an honorary doctorate from Oxford University.
